Boomer is a Golden Retriever, born January 10, 2000.
We've shared our lives together since March 25, 2000, when a young couple drove a red jeep
up the winding driveway in West Suffield to meet 2 puppies.
It was the only available litter we could find.
When we arrived, one reddish puppy with a litte white blaze was playing alone in an X-pen.
He was digging and carrying a piece of wood around.
The breeder informed us the other puppy was slated to fly across the country.
This one was left, and if we didn't like him, we could wait for another litter.
"What do you think?" my bf (now ex-) asked.
I shrugged. (I had pictured a fluffy, light show dog.)
"He's cute enough" I replied.
"Ok, we'll take him."
Thus began a journey of the love of a lifetime.
Fast forward 10 years.
I complained to my friends at obedience that Boomer was slowing down.
I was afraid he wouldn't be able to do field or obedience anymore.
They suggested that a puppy makes older dogs young again.
I argued that as an only dog for 10 years, Boomer didn't want a puppy.
They suggested the breeder had some puppies I could foster; that way if Boomer didn't like it I could bring it back.
If he did like it, we could keep it. Either way the puppy gets experience and everyone wins!
Boomer gracefully welcomed Gladys into our little family.
Fast forward 2 years.
By co-owning Gladys, we agreed to have a litter or two,
as Gladys was the last of her line and they wanted to continue her line.
I said we were not keeping any puppies.
Then lo and behold we all welcomed little Dee Dee into our home and hearts.
Boomer is the man of the house and we all love him very much.
I've journaled, scrapbooked, and photographed much of our lives together.
